QUESTION
I
am 22-year-old student. I haven't had sex yet, but several months ago I
experienced passionate open mouth kissing with my date. Lately I noticed a
yellowish discharge from my penis during urination. Does it mean I have an STD?
ANSWER
Yellowish discharge
from the penis sounds like inflammation or irritation of the urethra -- the tube
that carries urine or cum out of the penis. In medicine this is called
urethritis. Urethritis can be caused by bacterial infections such as gonorrhea
or chlamydia. You can get uethritis a variety of ways, including vaginal, anal
and oral sex. Other less common causes of urethritis include autoimmune diseases
like allergic reactions, urinary tract infection in women, an inflamed prostate,
a tightening of the foreskin, or by inserting something into your penis (catherization).
In people who are not sexually active, STDs would not be expected. Best to see a
doctor for a full evaluation to find out exactly what's happening in your case.
