Our staff and providers work tirelessly to create a patient experience that allows everyone who comes through our doors to feel safe and secure.

We offer a wide range of sexual health services at San Francisco City Clinic, including:

For sexually active gay and bisexual men, trans women who have sex with men and trans men who have sex with men, we recommend that you get tested for HIV and STIs every three months.

Most vaccines offer you a level of protections, just like sunblock. Sometimes you need to reapply for more protection. The Mpox vaccine is based on two shots several weeks apart to provide you with the strongest level of protection if you are exposed to Mpox. You only need the two dose Mpox vaccination for Mpox to get strongest recommended protection.

“City Clinic gives you hope that good health care can happen. They take privacy quite seriously, and your health even more seriously.”

STI testing guidelines

These guidelines will help you determine what tests you need if you don’t have any STI symptoms. Depending on your situation, we may recommend that you get tested for other infections or that you get tested more frequently. Our experienced staff can help you determine what tests you need.

Gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men

Your blood should be tested for syphilis and HIV every three months. You should also get urine, oral, and rectal swab tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea every three months.

Trans women and trans men who have sex with men

Your blood should be tested for syphilis and HIV every three months. You should also get urine or vaginal swab tests, as well as oral and rectal swab tests for chlamydia and gonorrhea every three months.

Lesbians, bisexual women and other women who have sex with women

If you are 25 years or younger, you should be tested for chlamydia and gonorrhea once each year and for HIV at least once in your life.

If you are older than 25 years, you should be tested for HIV at least once in your life.

If you are pregnant, you should be tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and HIV in the first trimester and again in the third trimester if you are at risk of STIs.

If you are HIV positive, you should also be tested for trichomoniasis (trich) once every year.

Getting regular, ongoing health care

SF City Clinic offers comprehensive sexual health services, but we are not a primary care clinic. We encourage you to enroll in health insurance and identify a doctor or other healthcare provider who can help you with any other health matters.

Finding the right healthcare provider

Finding a healthcare provider whom you can talk to about your sexuality and sex practices is important because open discussion will help your provider best support you.

  • If you are looking for a provider who is culturally aware of the needs of gay and bisexual men and women, the Gay and Lesbian Medical Association has a list of gay providers and can be reached at 415-255-4547 or at www.glma.org.
  • If you are looking for information about trans health, visit Gender Health SF.
