Ask Dr. K

I get one bump that reoccurs in the same spot on my labia. It is itchy or painful at times and it lasts a few days. I saw a doctor and was tested for herpes, but came out negative. What else could this be? Should I get retested? My fiance has no symptoms.

Getting retested for herpes is a good idea since this type of test is not always positive the first time. Other causes of recurrent lesions or bumps could be infected follicles, cysts or yeast. Only a doctor can make a diagnosis after a complete examination. Getting a herpes blood test might be a good idea because it tests for antibodies present in your system. If you have the antibodies, it means that the recurrent lesion is most likely herpes.

To your health,
Dr. K
