WISDOM TEETH REMOVED

QUESTION
Three weeks ago, I had my two lower wisdom teeth extracted, and now I have holes in my jaw behind my molars where those teeth once were. The wounds don't appear to have closed fully, and may not for a couple weeks. Is there a risk of catching something via kissing?

ANSWER
Kissing in general isn't going to infect you with an STD or HIV. However, other types of sex -- sucking cock--with your mouth when you are injured could. The open wounds in your mouth could make oral sex a higher risk activity for you in terms of HIV and some STDs. I recommend avoiding having any semen or vaginal fluids in your mouth until you are fully healed. And just like any other wound, keep the area as clean and protected as you can and see your dentist or oral surgeon if any problems arise.

To your health,
Dr. K
